A Common Misunderstanding About Nordic Walking

Nordic walking is often mistaken for ordinary walking with poles added for stability. In reality, Nordic walking is a full body activity that uses a specific technique to coordinate the arms, poles, and legs.

When done properly, Nordic walking boosts all the benefits of ordinary walking, naturally propelling the body forward. in an exhilerating fashion. When done incorrectly, the poles can feel awkward, get in the way, and even leave you wondering what all the excitement is about.

Who Enjoys Nordic Walking the Most?

I find that Nordic walking is especially popular with people who aren’t keen on the classic reps-and-sets weight-room workout. My classes typically attract people over 50 who enjoy being active while exploring nature and mixing with like-minded others. They enjoy the simplicity of the workout while also appreciating the initial challenge of using the poles properly.

Anyone can buy a pair of Nordic walking poles. But as with any new activity, it’s wise to get professional instruction to ensure you gain all the benefits while minimizing any risks.
