Fitness Classes with Walking Poles

WHO are these classes for?
The classes are ideal for people managing chronic diseases (such as kidney disease, heart disease, arthritis, obesity, osteoporosis and diabetes), new exercisers, and inactive older adults.

WHO am I?
I’m Barb Gormley, a long-time certified group exercise instructor and fitness trainer. I have a degree in health & physical education, and I am a Heart Wise exercise instructor.

WHY?
It’s sometimes too cold, too hot, too wet or too slippery to use your walking poles outdoors. Urban Poling ACTIVATOR and Nordic walking poles are an ideal exercise tool for indoor stationary exercise. (Remember that your poles are also perfect for navigating parking lots and busy hallways on your way to medical appointments.)

Level 1 (30 minutes)

This gentle class focuses on improving mobility, flexibility and strength. All exercises are performed seated at a slow to moderate pace.

Level 2 (30 minutes)

Similar to Level 1, but half this class is performed seated and half standing. A slightly faster pace and slightly higher intensity than Level 1.

Level 3 (30 minutes)

All exercises performed standing. Poles are vertical for half the class and horizontal for half. Faster pace and higher intensity than Level 2.
