Sea, sand & Soul

Frequently-Asked Questions

  1. How does SS&S differ from other fitness retreats?

We’re not sure there are many similar events! (Please let us know if you know of any.) We find that most retreats: focus solely on yoga; focus on relaxing; offer a large amount of free time; offer just two physical activity/yoga classes per day. Some retreats require participants to contact the hotel to organize their own accommodation and meals.

In comparison, at Sea, Sand & Soul we organize all your accommodation and meals (except one lunch on cycling day) and offer full days of activities. Our goal is more about energizing than relaxing; sessions aren’t mandatory, but we find people rarely skip a session (well maybe the extra-early morning swim in the Atlantic!…though many come to walk the beach instead).

We don’t jampack the schedule or rush from session to session. But we want you to have a full experience, to learn new skills and new information, make new friends, and get a good feel for the province of PEI.

  2. How fit do I need to be for this retreat?
If you’re a regular exerciser—whether it’s Nordic walking, yoga or anything else that keeps you regularly active—you should fit right in. There’s no need to be a super athlete, but a good fitness level is required to fully enjoy this retreat. Note that we Nordic walk for one hour-plus on some days.

  3. Do most people come on their own or with a friend?
About 50/50. Each year’s group has been super friendly, and we have all gone home with new friends.

  4. What’s the age range of participants?
50ish to 70ish. We typically have a couple of participants over 70, and they tend to be fitter than than the average 70+ woman. Check here to be sure this retreat is a good fit for you.

  5. Should I bring my yoga mat, bike helmet, Nordic walking poles, etc.?
No, we supply all fitness equipment for all activities.

  6. Will there be time for relaxing and reading?
Yes! There is free time before lunch and dinner. No activity is mandatory. We aim for an active but relaxed pace.

  7. What if I have food allergies or sensitivities?
No problem. The chef can easily accommodate for vegetarian and gluten free diets and allergies.

  8. How do I get from the airport to the hotel?
There will be plenty of taxis at the airport. In the past, the cost has been $10-$15 per person when 6 to 8 participants share a van for the 20-minute trip to the hotel.

  9. When does the retreat start and finish?
    Check-in is 3pm and check-out is 11am.

  10. Are there shops or a convenience store nearby?
No. The hotel is in the middle of Prince Edward Island National Park.

  11. What should I pack? We will send packing suggestions closer to the event. (Mostly a variety of casual clothes for all types of early fall weather.)
